(HPSI), effective today, where he will lead the yard's expansion and transition to dual-use shipbuilding. Hyuk Kim succeeds David Kim, who played a significant role in Hanwha's 2024 acquisition of the shipyard and led a near doubling of its workforce since that time. Hyuk Kim brings more than 25 years of naval and commercial shipbuilding experience, including senior roles at Hanwha Ocean and its predecessor, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

PHILADELPHIA, PA / ACCESS Newswire / October 7, 2026 / Hanwha Philly Shipyard (HPSI), a leading U.S. shipbuilder, today announced its contract award to build the Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) new Missile Range Instrumentation Vessel (MRIV), expanding the shipyard's role in supporting critical U.S. government maritime programs. The contract award is for up to three vessels, with one firm vessel being awarded at this time. The vessel will be delivered to the Maritime Administration (MARAD), which will operate the vessel for the MDA.
