What Happened?

Shares of PCB manufacturing company TTM Technologies (NASDAQ:TTMI) jumped 6% in the afternoon session after activist investor Third Point acquired a new stake in the company and Bank of America established a new position, according to TipRanks. The advance also coincided with a synchronized rally across the electronic component sector, where TTM Technologies outperformed peer companies such as Flex, Sanmina, and IPG Photonics. Separately, Needham analyst James Ricchiuti reiterated a Buy rating on TTM Technologies while lowering the firm’s price target on the stock to $175 from $220.

After the initial pop, the shares cooled down and closed the day at $124.41, up 5.5% from the previous close.

What Is The Market Telling Us

TTM Technologies’s shares are extremely volatile and have had 70 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 20 days ago when the stock dropped 2.2% on the news that surging crude oil prices and a sharp jump in benchmark Treasury yields stoked renewed concerns over inflation and prolonged corporate borrowing costs. The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield rose to about 4.79%, a multi-month high, as Middle East hostilities revived inflation fears, according to the Wall Street Journal. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed to about $90 a barrel after fresh U.S. strikes on Iranian targets, CNBC reported. For capital-intensive hardware providers, higher bond yields raise the discount rate on distant cash flows and the cost of funding new digital infrastructure, while stronger oil prices threaten freight and manufacturing-services margins.

TTM Technologies is up 77.7% since the beginning of the year, but at $125.48 per share, it is still trading 43.3% below its 52-week high of $221.47 from June 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of TTM Technologies’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $10,046.
