-- PROSTAID Calgary will host its May 2026 general meeting on Wednesday, May 20, at 7:30 PM at the CKE Community Centre. Prostate cancer outcomes have improved significantly, with a 91% five-year survival rate, according to the Canadian Cancer Society. As more individuals live longer after diagnosis, families are increasingly managing extended caregiving responsibilities that can span several years. Statistics Canada reports that 5.7 million unpaid caregivers face ongoing emotional, physical, and financial strain, underscoring the importance of targeted support that enables caregivers to maintain their own well-being while caring for loved ones.
To help address these needs, Sandra Scott will outline the various support services available through Caregivers Alberta during the May session, including one-on-one consultations and peer support groups. With a background in community development and program coordination, she has led initiatives such as the Village Commons, a hub for senior engagement and volunteerism, and developed programs that strengthen community connections and caregiver support.
"Caregivers Alberta strives to empower caregivers and promote their well-being by providing group and one-on-one support services, increasing community capacity, and advocating on behalf of caregivers," said a spokesperson for the organization.
The meeting will be held in person at the CKE Community Centre, 1015 73 Ave SW, Calgary, with a virtual attendance option via Zoom. Those wishing to join online can RSVP through the organization’s website to receive a custom link. Attendance is free and open to patients, survivors, caregivers, and family members affected by prostate cancer.
