ZHOUKOU, China, Sept. 19, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The seventh edition of the "Chasing the Mid-Autumn Moon" global communication campaign will run from September 21 to 27, 2026. As one of this year's participating cities, Zhoukou in Henan Province, known as the ancient capital of the legendary ruler Fuxi and the hometown of the philosopher Laozi, will extend greetings to audiences at home and abroad.

Located in southeastern Henan, in the heart of the Huang-Huai Plain, Zhoukou lies at the confluence of the Sha, Ying and Jialu rivers. Historically known as "the Zhou family's ferry crossing," it flourished as a center of grain transport and river trade during the Ming and Qing dynasties, becoming one of the four renowned towns of China's Central Plains.
The Publicity Department of the CPC Zhoukou Municipal Committee noted that Zhoukou is a designated city for a port-based national logistics hub, and Zhoukou Port is one of China's 36 major inland river ports.
The department said that in recent years, Zhoukou has pursued integration of its ports, industries, urban development and industrial parks. It has developed a "1+9" port network anchored by Zhoukou Central Port and successively launched 43 domestic and international container shipping routes, enabling containers and cargo to reach destinations worldwide.
The city has become a new gateway connecting Henan with the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, a strategic link for integration with the Yangtze River Delta, and a new hub for international connectivity in southeastern Henan. Zhoukou is accelerating its transformation from a corridor through which goods pass into an economy that generates value from those flows.
Alongside its growing role in trade and logistics, Zhoukou has a long history and rich cultural heritage as the ancient capital of Fuxi and the hometown of Laozi.
The department added that in recent years, the city has worked to foster cultural vitality and contribute to Henan's "Walking in Henan, Understanding China" cultural tourism brand. Through heritage conservation, the transmission of cultural traditions and innovative development, Zhoukou continues to enrich tourism through culture and bring its cultural heritage to wider audiences through travel.
Across this land of three rivers, these efforts are shaping a new landscape of integrated cultural and tourism development. "Seeking the Dao in Zhoukou" has emerged as a signature expression of the city's cultural appeal.
