National Science Teaching Association Welcomes New Board and Council Members

The National Science Teaching Association (NSTA), the largest professional organization in the world promoting excellence and innovation in science teaching and learning for all, welcomed six new members to its Board of Directors and six new members to its Council.

“These classroom teachers, informal educators, and administrators all have a passionate commitment to the association and to quality science education,” said Dr. Erika Shugart, NSTA Executive Director. “We are lucky to have them leading this organization as science teachers nationwide make plans to return to in-person learning this fall.”

The new board members join a 13-member board that oversees NSTA’s finances, policies and procedures, and strategic planning. New board members include:

  • Heather Anglin, NSTA Division Director, Middle Level Science Teaching

    Middle Science Teacher, Stephen Decatur Middle School, Upper Marlboro, Maryland
  • Megan Earnest, NSTA Division Director, Informal Science

    School Programs Supervisor, Minnesota Zoo, Saint Paul, Minnesota
  • Kimberley Astle, NSTA Division Director, Professional Learning in Science Education

    K-12 Science Program Supervisor, State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Vancouver, Washington
  • Brian Shmaefsky, NSTA Division Director, Post-Secondary Science Teaching

Comprised of 18 district directors, each member of the council is the official representative of NSTA in his/her geographic district and serves as the primary liaison on issues of importance to science and improvement of science education at all levels. The council functions as the advisory body to the board of directors. New council members include:
