The Sydney silk label known for its square scarves introduces its debut piece of silkwear: a two-layer mulberry silk midi skirt, released as a small first-run capsule.

SYDNEY, Australia - Silkberry, the independent Australian silk label known for its square mulberry silk scarves, has unveiled the first piece of apparel in its history. The Midi Silk Skirt marks the brand's move from accessories into silkwear, and it arrives the way Silkberry approaches everything else: in a deliberately small run rather than a mass launch. Only a limited number of pieces will be available in the opening capsule. The collection launches in June 2026 as a limited first release.

It is a notable step for a brand that built its name on a single category. Until now, Silkberry has been defined by its scarves. The skirt signals a wider ambition: to become a destination for considered silk pieces a wardrobe can be built around, not only finished with.

"I wanted to take Silkberry beyond accessories without losing what the brand has always been about, silk you actually wear rather than silk you save for a special occasion," said Michelle, founder of Silkberry. "The midi skirt felt like the natural next step. It carries the same idea as our scarves, just in a piece you can style a whole outfit from."

The skirt

Cut from two layers of 100% mulberry silk, the Midi Silk Skirt takes its cue from the classic slip skirt and updates it for everyday wear. The double layer gives the skirt weight and movement, a clean drape, and a silhouette designed to flatter a range of body types. It is made to move easily from day to evening, dressed down with a knit and flats or up with heels and one of the brand's scarves.

The opening capsule is being developed in a tight palette of wardrobe staples rather than seasonal colours, with rich burgundy, soft champagne, black and white among the shades under consideration. The intention, as with the rest of the range, is longevity: pieces that still make sense several years from now.

A limited capsule

In keeping with how Silkberry operates, the first skirt will be released as a genuine capsule. Only five pieces per size and colour will be produced in the opening run.

The scale is intentional. Silkberry is a small, independent operation, and small-batch production lets the brand keep a close eye on quality while offering customers something that is, by design, hard to find. Early access to the first drop is available through the brand's pre-sale waitlist at https://silkberry.com.au/pages/waitlist.

From scarves to silkwear

Silkberry was founded in Sydney by Michelle, who started the label after travelling through Europe and Asia, where silk is woven into daily life rather than kept for best. Returning home, she found mostly synthetic imitations or labels priced out of reach, and built Silkberry to fill the gap with pure silk made for everyday wear.

That thinking shaped the scarf collection that came first, designed around the idea of "one piece, endless ways." The square scarves are made to be worn as a neck scarf, a hair tie, a bag accent or a statement on their own, in shades that run from the deep red of Black Cherry and the bright citrus of Limoncello to the everyday neutrals of Timeless Black and Timeless Beige and the softer print of Navy Petals. The scarves currently sit between $75 and $95.

Alongside the scarves, Silkberry's accessories line also includes silk scrunchies, gentler on hair than standard elastics and cut from the same mulberry silk as the rest of the range. Together, these pieces established the everyday-silk approach the new skirt now carries into apparel.

Looking ahead

With its first piece of silkwear in production, Silkberry plans to keep building the apparel side of the label while holding to its small-batch, everyday-silk approach. Curated gift sets and further silk pieces are among the directions the brand is exploring.
